Family Food Classes

This program is currently closed.

These meal-time learning sessions invited families to prepare, eat and enjoy exploring local foods together. We took our travelling food show around Headwaters to visit as many communities as possible. 

We teamed up food professionals – farmers, chefs and dietitians – to represent different perspectives and provide a truly local context for the food being featured. These teams planned the menu, workstations with age-appropriate jobs and equipment, and interesting tricks of the trade to be shared. Because the sessions were scheduled throughout the year, each one was unique, showcasing seasonally available ingredients and preparation or preservation techniques. The goal was to get the whole family in the kitchen as well as around the table.

Our Family Food Classes are currently on hold pending new funding. If you would like to arrange for a paid class for a group of friends or colleagues, we only need to cover costs. Please email us to coordinate:  f2s@hffa.ca

If you are a chef, farmer or dietitian who would like to facilitate some family food fun, we want to talk to you! Just do what you do, share your talents and expertise with the people in your community and help grow local food literacy.
